Stack Live – the aftermath

Update

Thanks very much to everyone who came down to the first Stack Live event at The Book Club on Monday night. Ryan Fitzgibbon from Hello Mr put on a fantastic show, running through his magazine’s back story and explaining why he decided to “start something rather than join something”.

Speaking about his ambitions for mainstream distribution, which recently came a step closer thanks to a deal with Barnes & Noble, he said that it’s important for Hello Mr to provide an alternative to the more traditional, more sexualised gay magazines on the newsstand. “We’re there on shelf with the rest. We’re not there to point fingers, but just to be there, and to be an option for people”.

It was brilliantly inspiring to hear a publishing entrepreneur speak about working his way to success, and figuring out Instagram along the way.

Thanks should also go to Root + Bone, who collaborated with Tonkotsu East to recreate the Rinse and Ramen story from their current issue. The noodles were fantastic, a perfect accompaniment to beer and magazine talk.

And of course the event wouldn’t have been complete without Steven Gregor from Gym Class magazine playing his selection of tunes until way later than anyone should have been out on a Monday night.
