The Stack Awards: Best original non-fiction

The judging is complete, the trophies are being engraved and on Monday 30 November we’ll announce the winners of the first ever Stack Awards.

Hundreds of fantastic magazines were submitted by publishers from all around the world, and over the next seven days we’ll count down the shortlisted titles across each of the categories, starting with Best original non-fiction.

Boat (Los Angeles)
A nomadic travel magazine that focuses on a different city each issue, Boat tells the sort of stories you won’t find in other travel titles.

Delayed Gratification (London)
Mixing longform journalism with clever infographics and expert analysis, Delayed Gratification is slow journalism at its best.

Fool (Malmö)
A fresh approach to food publishing, recipe-free Fool magazine takes inspiration from fashion, design and popular culture.

Future Perfect (New South Wales)
An editorial upstart with big ambitions, Future Perfect brings a fresh perspective to Australian current affairs and politics.

The Lifted Brow (Victoria)
A self-titled ‘quarterly attack journal’, The Lifted Brow is another Australian title winning fans around the world with its high quality, exciting writing.

Makeshift (New York)
“A field guide to hidden creativity”, Makeshift takes a genuinely global perspective to report on the most interesting and often overlooked innovations popping up around the world.

Postr (Ghent)
A free folded A1 magazine championing counterculture and aiming to inspire new ideas, Postr wants to be stuck up on a wall near you.

Sidetracked (Worcester)
An extraordinary travel and adventure magazine, Sidetracked will make you want to leave your desk behind and go risk your life somewhere scenic.

Victory Journal (New York)
With its oversize pages and big, in-depth stories, Victory Journal is totally unlike any other sports magazine published today.

Works That Work (The Hague)
With a fresh approach to design, Works That Work shines light on the most ingenious – and often under-appreciated – creations of our times.
